Silken Windhound, which is like a small version of Borzoi, is an active and loving dog breed. The medium-sized Silken Windhound is an elegant sighthound with the ability to move quickly and gracefully. This medium-sized dog has a soft, silky coat with a beautiful texture. To keep the coat silky and soft, it requires grooming every week.

Silken Windhound will be the ideal dog for anyone looking for an affectionate breed of canine that is able to cuddle and play with them on their couch, as well as participate actively in any activities they enjoy. This breed thrives in both an apartment and in a family home that has a big yard.

Origin and History

Silken Windhounds were created just a few years ago by combining Borzois with Whippets. Francie Stull wanted to create a breed with the Whippet look but also a beautiful coat, like the Borzoi. She crossed the two and in 1985, the first Silken Windhound appeared. The name came in 1998.

This breed was recognized as a Sighthound by the United Kennel Club in 2011, but not yet by the American Kennel Club. This breed is now popular worldwide, not only in the United States.

Temperament is a combination of personality and behavior

Temperament: Silken Windhounds are friendly, active, and loving. These dogs are very friendly and will get along with almost anyone. It is a breed that is affectionate and loving with family. This breed loves to lay on the couch, but it also enjoys regular exercise.

Personality: Silken Windhounds are intelligent and friendly. This breed gets along well with most people, but if you’re looking for a guard or watchdog, then this isn’t the right choice for you. It is not shy or aggressive.

Behavior: Silken Windhounds are very social and love being around their owners. They may develop separation anxiety if they’re not paid enough attention to or if left alone too long. A high prey desire can also lead the Silken to pursue small birds and animals. Always keep an eye on your pet.

Trainability

It is easy to train the Silken Windhound as they are intelligent and smart dogs that can learn quickly. Even though its independence can lead to stubbornness, it is important that you establish an Alpha position at an early age so the dog knows who it’s master.

As they progress, you can move on to advanced training. They will be kept active and stimulated.
